Fly fishing in Narita airport periphery. (August 21th, 2001 and updated September 10th)
Mr. X Hello, I am a pilot for XX Airlines and have frequent layovers in Narita. Do you have any info on flyfishing in or around Narita. Is it OK to cast a line in the river near the Narita Buddah Temple? Please let me know what the rules are. Thanks, X.
XLV750R Hello, The trout is not inhabiting in Chiba Pref. where there is Narita. It is because there is not a mountainous region. Yet, Large-Mouse BASS and Blue gills are inhabiting. You can fish these with flyfishing. Good season is November from March. When midsummer is hot it is early morning and evening. There are many small lake (pond, swamp) and waterway in Narita periphery. It is Lake Inba-numa, Lake Ushiku-numa and Lale Kasumi-ga-ura. Probably the Fishing license is unnecessary. Yet, the water quality and environment are not so good. Also there is the place where is releasing a trout with winter limitation. It is a Isumi-gawa Riv. Here is a special charge. But, I do not know the details because I did not go. Yet, I think that it is a #5 tackle whichever. Also, even the spin casting is possible. Good Fishing! PS. Of course, site inside of the Buddhism temple is prohibition of fishery :-)
Mr. X Hello again. thanks for the info. I was referring to the Tokyu??river which runs behind the hotel rhiga near the airport. it seems to run through the city of narita. It is small and relatively shallow. I am a fly fisherman and would just plan to catch and release anything that I catch. What license or permission do i need to get? and from who? where? thanks.
XLV750R Hello, I am asking it to the friend of Chiba Pref. Please wait for a while. I obtained the reply from my friend. That river is making the hilly region of the neighborhood and the airport site the source. Of course trout is not inhabiting. Possibly "OIKAWA-fish" may be inhabiting, although be hardly able to expect. Although OIKAWA is a small fish (4 to 7 inches) it is very quick. As for the fly brown-color of #18-20 is good. Please try with a light tackle. It is #2, #3 and 7x, 8x. And, please search evening Rise! http://www.agri.pref.kanagawa.jp/suisoken/naisui/fishfile/oikawa.htm You need not to acquire the fishing license in the advance in Chiba Pref. You can purchase it on site if be doing fishing and be requested. (about 500yen/day, and need not extra chage) This official is a private citizen because the license of Japan is not the jurisdiction of a state (pref.). Also, as for the river and lake inside Chiba Pref. be possibility flyfishing anywhere.
