Q & A
Fly fishing in Hiroshima Pref.
(July 23th, 2001)

Mr. X
Hi, My name is X and I am from Canada. I will be living in Hiroshima prefecture, Onomichi city for a year starting early august. One of my biggest concerns was if there was any fly fishing near by. I was wondering if you know of any flyfishing in this area.

Hello, welcome in Japan and my website.

I am living in Tokyo and Hiroshima Pref. is distant 800km! Accordingly, I do not know the details of Hiroshima Pref.
Yet, the trout seems to be inhabiting to many rivers though it is a minority with the small size.
Hiroshima Pref. is in the southwest area of Japan and the trout is inhabiting to most upstream because the height above sea level of the mountain is low.

The mountainous region of the area is a watershed and Hiroshima Pref. of the south side is facing in the Inland Sea of Japan (Seto-nai-kai) and Amago inhabits.  The north side of the mountainous region faces in the Sea of Japan and Yamame inhabits.  Yet, the river is very small-scale.

The summer of Japan very be hot, August and September are not good.
Also, many rivers of Japan become to prohibition of fishery from October.  The opening is March of next year.

However, this is your good luck.  There is the place called "Yubara" in Okayama Pref. of the neighbour.  There is about 100 km from Onomichi. Because it is low water temperature although power generation dam flows out it is becoming Spring Creek condition.
It is said in all of the good pool of the overall length of 300 meters conversely, although there is the limitation section of only about 300 meters.  Although the license charge is 2 times (\2100/day) there is not prohibition of fishery.  Especially November is said to be good from the last ten days of September. The rainbow trout and brown trout that bred there are.

The fly is midge(pupa), caddis(pupa), all of #18-#24.
Yet, it is very difficult RISE! It is said to be equal Henry's Fork.
The following are the report of my friend.
Although it is Japanese you will be able to see the photograph.
Good fishing!
